Meet Two Victims

These two women were killed selfishly in 2010 by men who could not handle ending their relationships. Sadly, people are having a hard time separating from failing relationships, which often times end in disaster. One man who killed his wife later committed suicide, while the other rejected boyfriend is facing capital murder charges.


JAPRIESE PLATT-HURD
Japriese Platt-Hurd was killed May 4, 2010 in Fort Worth by her estranged husband right before the couple was scheduled to settle a divorce.

Platt's body was discovered by Fort Worth police officers after they noticed her vehicle crashed into an utility pole. She was shot in the head.

Platt's family said the relationship had been rocky for quite some time; and, the divorce was supposed to be settled the same week of the incident, and the couple had agreed to meet one last time at a nearby Waffle House.

"From then on, it didn't go his way," said Kay Platt, Japriese's aunt. "And so when she left, that was the last anybody seen her alive, because he drove up beside her and shot her in the head."

After killing his wife, John Hurd pulled into a shopping center less than a mile away and committed suicide.

LATRESSA CAMPBELL

Latressa Campbell, 39, and her boyfriend, Toby Lightfoot, 33, were killed September 24 by a man who was pursuing a relationship with Campbell. but she rejected him.

The suspect, David Jackson, 32, is facing capital murder charges in the fatal shooting of both Campbell and Lightfoot.

Lightfoot was shot in the head, neck and stomach; and Campbell died from a gunshot wound in the shoulder, according to Tarrant County Medical Examiners.

After shooting the couple, Jackson fled the scene but was later apprehended by Fort Worth police.  He was placed in the Mansfield jail with a bail set at $1 million.
